About the Doctors

Doctors at Yakima Vision Center are proud to be members and supporters of the American Optometric, Washington Optometric and Yakima Optometric Associations for over 20 years.

Dr. Susan Farmer

Dr. Farmer came to Yakima in 1993 to open the Group Health Yakima Vision Center, as the clinic director.  Dr. Farmer opened Yakima Vision Center in 2008 with the goal of providing Washington residents the greatest quality eye care in the Yakima Valley. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University, Forest Grove, Oregon. She continued her optometric training through residency at Health and Human Services, Indian Health Service specializing in clinical based optometry and ophthalmologic co management of glaucoma, ocular disease, inflammation, trauma, retinopathy and cataracts.

She has extensive experience in family eye care, including pediatric eye examination, contact lens fitting, eye surgery co-management, adult eye care, and low vision consultation.

Dr. Farmer has a deep dedication to her patients and is very happy to be able to maintain the high quality of care that the Group Health Vision Center was known for under her direction.

Dr. Farmer is married with two children. She and her husband grew up in Idaho.  They both love Yakima for the outdoor recreation.

Dr. Farmer’s philosophy is to “treat every patient as a member of your own family”.

Dr. Mark Ward

Dr. Ward was welcomed to Yakima Vision in 2008.  Dr. Ward graduated with honors from Pacific University College of Optometry in 2005.  Dr. Ward did his externships at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Portland, Oregon, the Indian Health Services Medical Center in Salem, Oregon, and the Utah Eye Foundation.  During these rotations, Dr. Ward not only became well versed in vision disorders and treatment, he also excelled at diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease.

Dr. Ward’s patients are impressed with his knowledge, his willingness to listen to their concerns and his ability to discuss their situation with him in terms that they understand.  They also love his sense of humor.

Dr. Ward is married and has five children.  He and his wife are happy they chose Yakima to raise their family.

Dr. Ward’s philosophy is to “make sure every patient has a smile when they leave”.
