Yakima Vision Center: Eye & Vision Exams

At the Yakima Vision Center, we are strong advocates of preventative eye care to maintain good eye health.  The sooner an eye condition is identified and treated, the better the outcome. Regardless of your physical health or age, routine eye exams are important. During a comprehensive eye and vision exam, at Yakima Vision Center, our eye doctors do more than just determine a prescription for contact lenses or eyeglasses. Our eye doctors can detect early signs of high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol by taking a look at your eye’s blood vessels and retina. An eye exam is a good assessment of your overall health. In addition, many eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma have no symptoms in the early stages. With an annual eye exam, eye diseases can be detected early, and timely treatment can reduce the risk of permanent vision loss.

In addition to checking overall health and eye disease, an eye doctor is looking for other conditions, such as refractive errors, amblyopia, strabismus and eye teaming problems. Amblyopia occurs when one eye has a higher refractive degree than the other. Left untreated, this eye condition can inhibit the affected eye and result in permanent vision impairment. Strabismus is turned eyes and can cause problems with depth perception. Eye teaming problems, such as binocular vision, can cause eye strain, headaches and difficulty reading.

Regular eye exams are your ticket to seeing better and preserving your vision for life.
